This 3 day course will focus on learning to design custom parts for your own robot. You will start with a modular robot chassis, and you will learn how to use 3D CAD to design and 3D print your own parts.

** Select this Advanced Camp if you have already built a Camp Witch Doctor kit, either at home or a previous year's camp. You will need to bring a laptop to the class (If you don't have one, we have a small number we can provide for use during the class).
OPTIONS:
Reuse my robot: If you choose this option, you must bring your Camp Witch Doctor robot to the workshop. We will be taking it apart and reusing the components to build a more advanced robot.
Build a new robot: Choose this option if you don't want to take apart your existing robot, and you prefer to build a new one during the Advanced Camp. You will get a new set of parts for your new robot.
This workshop will take place at Moonlighter FabLab at 1661 Pennsylvania Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Parking available at the Pennsylvania Garage (City Parking Rates May Vary). Main entrance from 17th Street.
Students must be ages 8+, adults welcome. Each student must bring their own lunch.
Advanced Camp:
Day 1: Introduction to Design
Tuesday July 1, 10-4pm
Morning:
- Meet and greet
- Safety overview
- Introduction to design thinking
- Design activity
Afternoon:
- Build new robot
- Test different attachments
- Design two custom attachments
- Prototype attachments
Day 2: CAD Design
Wednesday July 2, 10-4pm
Morning:
- CAD overview
- Learn CAD basics
- Complete series of activities to practice CAD skills
Afternoon:
- Learn measuring techniques
- Add dimensions to your designs
- Design your 1-2 custom attachments in CAD
- Export your design for 3D printing
Day 3: Tournament Day
Thursday July 3, 10-4pm
Morning:
- Test your new 3D printed custom designs on your robot
- Decorate your robots! Choose a name and add some color to get your robots ready for battle!
- Practice battles
- Lock in your robot's configuration
Afternoon:
- Test your designs in a first tournament! You’ll get a chance to battle your bots in the arena!
- Discuss potential design changes
